Chip Design Systems (CDS) is thrilled to announce the
award of a $4,000,000 Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to
develop the EO/IR Micro-LED Array, a leading-edge scene projection technology. This
significant government contract underlines CDS’s position as a key innovator in the
field of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) simulation and testing technologies.
The EO/IR Micro-LED Array project aims to revolutionize scene projection for various
Department of Defense (DoD) applications. These applications range from air-to-air,
surface-to-air, to space-background simulations, which are pivotal in developing and
testing new prototype munitions and seeker concepts. The contract’s scope includes
developing and fabricating new LED array technologies capable of generating high-
fidelity scenes for HWIL testing, encompassing different spectra and wavebands,
from ultraviolet to long-wave infrared.
One of the project’s core innovations is the photonically-emitting micro LED,
designed to emit at very specific wavelengths, offering numerous advantages over
conventional systems. These include faster optical response times for higher
projected scene frame rates and improved quantum efficiency for higher apparent
temperatures. This makes the micro-LED emitter array technology more adaptable
and efficient for the DoD’s HWIL scene projection requirements.
CDS’s contract objectives include identifying and selecting LED emitter fabrication
vendors, fabricating LED arrays, integrating these arrays into final packaging, and
verifying system operability with stringent criteria for pixel size, frame rate, and
operability.
“We are honored to be entrusted with this project and excited about the potential
impacts of our work,” said Emir Kiamilev, CEO of Chip Design Systems. “This
contract is not just a testament to our technological capabilities but also a stepping
stone towards advancing the state of the art in HWIL testing and scene projection
technologies.
The award of the IDIQ contract to CDS reflects the company’s commitment to
innovation, excellence, and its growing influence in the defense technology sector.
